Creators pair it with text overlays that highlight a specific need, preference, or wish, then show the product as the answer. Brands use this trend to show the exact problem their product solves and to position themselves as the perfect fit. Use it to spotlight a product benefit, dual-purpose feature, or a niche request your brand fulfills.
The trend originated from a TikTok video posted on February 2, 2023, by the account @coachcheeralot, which showed a group of cheerleaders performing a call-and-response chant: "What you looking for? We got what you looking for." The video accumulated over 78 million views within four weeks and generated more than 430,000 uses of its audio on TikTok during February 2023 alone. Creators adopted the audio for lip-sync and participatory formats, overlaying text captions that identified a specific need or desire and then positioned themselves or their subject as the answer. A produced version of the chant titled "We Got What You're Looking For" was released as a single by the artist Matticulous on February 21, 2023, shortly after the original cheer audio went viral. Brands subsequently adopted the format, using product footage paired with text overlays stating a customer need and presenting their product as the solution, making it a recurring commercial content template on TikTok and Instagram Reels.
