Betrayal List

What is the Betrayal List trend?

Create a personal list of things that have let you down inspired by Kanye West's Twitter-published "betrayal list." Can be petty, oddly specific, or deeply cursed

Origin

The "Betrayal List" trend is a short-form video format in which creators compile personal lists of things, people, situations, or products they feel have disappointed or wronged them. The direct source is a post by rapper Kanye West (also known as Ye) on X (formerly Twitter) in late September 2025, in which he published a list titled "THE BETRAYAL" mixing real people, including Kim Kardashian, Donald Trump, Kid Cudi, Pete Davidson, LeBron James, and his daughter North West, with fictional characters such as Curious George and Patrick Star from SpongeBob SquarePants, and historical figures including Harriet Tubman and Adolf Hitler. West deleted the post shortly after, but screenshots circulated widely. By early October 2025, TikTok creators had adapted the format into a comedic meme in which the targets are mundane annoyances, such as paper straws, Ticketmaster fees, and printer jams, often set to West's 2010 song "Runaway" as background audio. The trend spread across TikTok and Instagram Reels under hashtags including #mybetrayallist and #betrayallist.
