Two shot
What is Two shot?
A two shot frames two people within the same shot, whether side by side or at different depths in the frame. Directors use it to show the relationship, dynamic, or emotional tension between two subjects without cutting away from either of them.
When you'd use it
- 1When two people are on screen together and the edit needs a single frame showing both without cutting.
- 2When the relationship or dynamic between two subjects is itself the visual story.
- 3When a back-and-forth exchange needs a moment of shared-frame coverage before cutting to singles.
- 4When a reaction needs to be captured alongside the person provoking it in the same frame.
Example
Two creators filming a 'try this trend together' video hold a two shot for the reaction moments, keeping both faces in frame simultaneously so viewers can compare responses without waiting for an edit cut.
Use cases
- 1Framing a host and guest together at the top of a brand interview before cutting to alternating singles.
- 2Capturing a side-by-side product comparison between two presenters in one unbroken shot.
- 3Showing a mentor and mentee in the same frame during a coaching or training video.
