Tutorial video
What is Tutorial video?
A tutorial video is an instructional format that teaches viewers how to complete a specific task or develop a skill by walking them through the process step by step. The primary goal is to leave the viewer able to do something they could not do before watching.
When you'd use it
- 1When a product requires a setup step or technique that buyers consistently get wrong.
- 2When search intent around a topic is how-to-focused and video is the format most viewers prefer.
- 3When onboarding drop-off suggests new users do not understand how to get value from the product.
- 4When a skill adjacent to the brand's category is something the target audience actively wants to learn.
- 5When a complex feature needs to be broken into steps before a customer will attempt it.
Example
A graphic designer on TikTok posted a 45-second tutorial covering one Figma shortcut per video in a numbered series. By the twelfth video in the series, each new entry was averaging 14% save rate and 3,200 new follows per video, compared to 2% save rate on her non-tutorial content.
Use cases
- 1Walking through a product setup from unboxing to first result in a single structured take.
- 2Breaking a multi-step technique into numbered on-screen sections so viewers can follow along.
- 3Demonstrating a specific use case with real materials so the outcome is visible by the end of the video.
Make on-brand short-form video from the footage you already have.
